The Fall of the Cowboys
By cowboy88 on Mon Mar 05, 2007 at 10:34:00 PM EST
It's time to start talking about one of the greatest collapses in all of college basketball. That would be the fall of the Oklahoma State Cowboy's basketball program.

Saturday and Sunday isn't tremendously exciting, and more a precursor to Championship Weeks. But aside from seeing which 1-bid leagues might become 2-bid leagues, what else could we learn this weekend?
For both teams I've included a graph that charts the offensive and defensive ratings for each game of the season. Keep in mind that for the defensive rating, lower is better. For both offense and defense, I've included a trendline showing roughly how each unit has progressed over the year. Also, the dotted line shows the national average efficiency.
I've also included the average ratings for their last ten games, to give a snapshot of how the team is playing right now. To give these numbers some context, I show where this would rank in the full-season stats, and what team's full-season rating is the closest.

Each year there are at least 3 teams that most ardent basketball fans feel should have been included in the at-large field and 3 teams that make us scratch our heads. Below, I will describe my current six "controversial" teams, include supporting evidence and follow with a poll to gauge everyone's opinion. Thanks for helping with this debate!
Over on Phog Blog I've made a coupleposts where I use Ken Pomeroy's seasonal offensive and defensive efficiency ratings and the raw efficiencies from his Game Plan pages to calculate single-game adjusted ratings. I thought I'd use those calculations to do a brief statistical preview of this afternoon's huge Big Ten clash. There won't be a lot of actual analysis here, because I haven't seen either team play a whole game this year. But I think it's fun to look at the stats anyway.
Kentucky, N. Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, and Duke the 5 winningest college basketball programs of All-Time are celebrating 500 years of combined play during the 2006-07 season.

With apologies to Chuck Klosterman, who once penned an article about the "23 Questions You Need to Ask Someone before you know if you can love them," I present now, essentially out of boredom, 22 questions about college basketball you'd need to ask another person before realizing your love for them.
Why 22, and not 23? Well,
a) I want to be at least somewhat original, and
b) I grew up in New York City in the 1990s. I don't like the number 23.

Sonny Vaccaro is ending his ABCD camp, the annual recruiting cattle call at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end for the summer hoops seasons filled with recruiting scandals, corrupt AAU coaches and backroom sneaker deals.

This years Kansas squad has got to have coach Self crying himself to sleep at night. I'd like to pose the question: Is it possible to have so much talent on a college basketball team, that it cripples them to the point of being incapable of finding their own identity?

The following records have been set by the Princeton University men's basketball team since coach Joe Scott took over the program for the 2004-2005 season.
