The Police
-- Dick Bennett lowers expectations. Washington State's "that'll be the day" has arrived.
-- Lorenzo Romar, recruiting machine. Spencer Hawes' commitment to Washington ups the ante in the Pac-10. Arizona and UCLA must now upgrade their frontlines. The Lopez twins have Stanford's back.
-- More trouble for Purdue. Shortly before juco transfer Tarrance Crump was arrested for a hit-and-run (Gregg Doyel: "Matt Painter faces the first awful decision of his career.") Gordon Watt was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
-- Jimi Hendrix was in 1969 acquitted after asserting that heroin was slipped into his bag without his knowledge. Will now former Tennessee forward Jemere Hendrix employ the same defense?
-- Stan Heath: "I'm not going to crucify a kid for speeding." To. The. Contrary.
We had guys who were really charged up to the point they were rushing things. Darian was like that. He'll get a speeding ticket some times. He just does things too fast at times. But I'd rather have a guy like that than maybe one you have to speed up a little. Steven Hill is a guy we try to speed up (emotionally) at times. So the emotion is what you want.
-- Didn't anybody tell Wonk? Beauty is internal.
-- Tickets to West Virginia's Guardians Classic games are now on sale. I'll skip the regionals in favor of West Virginia-Texas.
-- Who says nobody wants to play for Andy Kennedy? Not Cincinnati walk-ons Branden Miller and Pat Watt.
-- More reason to dislike Dick Vitale; the college basketball commentariat's most recognizable face prefers the Yankees to the Cardinals in the World Series. Me? I'm with Wetzel.
-- Ryan Sims has opted to attend Bowling Green rather than Michigan State. A big win for the Falcons.
-- Stanford athletic director Ted Leland will step down on January 1st. Trent Johnson, however, need not worry about his successor (if the Cardinal keep winning).
-- How long did it take Kentucky to distribute 20,000 tickets to this year's edition of Midnight Madness? A cool 35 minutes. The likelihood Ashley Judd got hers? 1:1.
-- Only North Carolina (14) has more players than Arizona and Duke (10) in the NBA. This and more from Steve Rivera of the Tucson (AZ) Citizen here.
